& MacGuffin Media
Meaning is the MacGuffin.
Founded in 2021, HitchCon exists to study and celebrate Alfred Hitchcock and his art—and the role they play in world culture. By means of regular online events and a yearly conference, it cultivates an ongoing conversation among film scholars, philosophers, artists and admirers. Hosted by Joel Gunz, HitchCon advances new critical and historical approaches to Hitchcock. Through his work it promotes the search for meaning in the 21st century.
Twice-weekly online gatherings.
Alongside the conference, the MacGuffin Film Club hosts a year-round series on Zoom. Scholars—and anyone who approaches film thoughtfully is a scholar—gather in a salon-like setting to screen films of Hitchcock and other cinema greats. The informal conversation that follows consistently sparks fresh, often profound insights on film and art. It’s among the most enriching discussions you’ll find anywhere.
